Court Repairs:
The tennis courts are showing cracks in the asphalt and have developed some low spots that
hold water. Frost has lifted some of the net posts so these net posts have to be pulled out and
replaced. The fence around the courts has to be straightened and tightened. The courts need
to be levelled and resurfaced and then have the lines repainted. There should also be some
french drains installed around the courts to divert water. Old heavy court light fixtures need to
be replaced with new lighter and more efficient LED fixtures. If this work is carried out properly, the courts should be in good shape for decades to come.
Hall Repairs:
It is necessary to improve drainage around hall, replace the skirting with ranch wall and paint
and make repairs to fascia and soffit. We recently have installed a new wheelchair ramp,
renovated the men’s and women’s washrooms and installed new LED light fixtures. We need
help to complete a barrier free washroom. The hall also needs interior painting. The support
structure needs to be inspected and repaired if necessary. The hall has an outdoor 30’ x 30’
deck that is beginning to rot. We want to reduce it to 30 x 15, replace railing and paint it.
Fundraising:
West Mabou Development plans to apply to municipal and provincial agencies for assistance in these necessary repairs to the building, courts and ball field. There is a lot of competition for government funding, so there is no guarantee that we will receive monies from these agencies. Even if we do receive government assistance, we will be responsible to cover at least one third of the overall expense. Early cost estimates are $55000.00 to $60000.00 if West Mabou Development Association hopes to complete all the repairs listed above. We are hoping that you can help us with some of our fundraising. It would be greatly appreciated!
